KIMBALL – Kimball High School’s Longhorn wrestlers had a darn good week. Trendon Hinton scored his 100th win this weekend.

They topped the Burns and Lingle teams by double scores in a home dual meet on Jan, 29 and then tied for fourth in a 15  team field at the Mitchell Invitational on Jan. 31.

It was Kimball 48-24 over Burns and 49-29 over Lingle.

Coach Tom Perlinski said, “The wrestlers were aggressive and wrestled with confidence in both of the duals.”

Cade Dickerson, Shawn Nagel, Jordan Stahla, Trendon Hinton, Michael Robinson and Ryan Gregory all come through the dual meet with 2-0 performances.

In the high caliber Mitchell Invitational, Kimball and Sidney tied for fourth place with 115 points each.

Mitchell was first with 196 points, then Gering with 173, followed by Chadron with 116.

Perlinski said Shawn Nagel, Trendon Hinton and Ryan Gregory finished the Mitchell tournament as champions. Michael Robinson was runner-up and Jordan Stahla finished in fourth place.On the JV side, Tyson Culek was 3-0, Cade Dickerson was 2-0 and Alex Rawlins was 1-2.

Leaders for the week were Hinton with six wins, Hinton and Gregory with four pins each and Nagel with 15 takedowns. Hinton, Culek and Eli Grubbs each had two reversals while Dustin Calkins and James Ferguson each had four escapes. Gregory had seven near falls.The Hustle Award went to Tyson Culek.

Coach Perlinski declared the Gregory vs. Voycheske (Ogallala) to be the most exciting match. It ended with Gregory pinning Voycheske in 5:59.

Dickerson and Culek were named the most improved wrestlers.

Kimball’s next match will be at Sidney on Feb. 7.
