KIMBALL – Kimball High School’s wrestlers won the Lingle Tournament last weekend for the first time since 1995.

Coach Tom Perlinski said every varsity wrestler scored points during the two day event and all his wrestlers looked confident and aggressive.

Perlinksi said, “Going into the finals we had a slim 2.5 point lead but with great effort we won three out of four of those final matches, along with bonus points.”

Ryan Gregory was 5-0 with four pins and a major decision, Shawn Nagel was 4-0 with four pins and Trendon Hinton had three pins and a technical fall.

Michael Robinson was defeated in a hard fought battle in the finals.

Jordan Stahla and Eli Grubbs both finished fourth and Matthew Merryfield was fifth.

“It was a great team effort,”  Perlinski said.

Gregory and Grubbs each won five matches. Nagel and Gregory each had four pins. Nagle had 15 takedowns. Grubs had five reversals. James Ferguson had four escapes and Grubbs nine nearfalls. Stahla earned the team’s Hustle Award.

The most exciting matches were Stahla vs. Faulkner (Morrill) and Merryfield vs. Marcelli (Natrona.)

Cade Dickerson and Preston Lukassen were named as Most Improved.

The Longhorns will be at home for their only local appearance on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. Then they travel to Mitchell for a Jan. 31 tournament.
