Rose Shandera, 94 of Gering, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Her Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Stephen Deaver officiating.

Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com.

Rose was born in Windsor, Colorado on March 16, 1914 to Henry L. and Katherine (Groh) Flohr. The family moved to Nebraska shortly after her birth, Rose attended schools in Kimball graduating from Kimball High School, in 1932.

Upon graduation, she taught in a country school and attended some classes at the University of Wyoming to help fulfill her teaching requirements.

In May of 1940, Rose married Leo L. Shandera, and they moved to Gering. She taught elementary school at Gering Valley, Minatare and in the Gering school system. Rose was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Rose is survived by a son, Allan and wife, Debbie Shandera of Spokane, Wash. and a daughter, Janet and husband, Michael Razee of Winchester, Calif. In addition, she has grandchildren: Alan and wife Kelli of Fresno, Calif., Terry and wife, Michele of Huntington Beach, Calif., Sean and wife, Jennifer of Edwards, Colo. and Jennifer and husband, Patrick of Arvada, Colo.

She had four great grandchildren, Ashton and Jessica of Huntington Beach, Calif., Noelle of Edwards, Colo. and Steven of Arvada, Colo; sister-inlaw, Doris Flohr of Scottsbluff and nieces and nephews and their children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo, parents, brothers and sister and a grandson, Todd.
