The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the suicide of Keith Moyer, Garden City, Kans. who fatally shot himself on Friday March 13. On that evening Kimball Police Department Captain Ken Lehr stopped a Chevrolet pick-up truck on highway 30 headed east,  driven by Moyer, to execute a Cheyenne County warrant.  The warrant was for a violation of protection order. Upon reaching the cab of the truck Lehr discovered that Moyer had shot himself in the head with a small caliber semi-automatic handgun. Moyer was airlifted to Regional West Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, March 14.Kimball Police Chief Doug Provance said the area was immediately taped off and the crime scene turned over to the Nebraska State Patrol. The case has been turned over to the NSP because a Kimball Officer was involved in the stop. Provance said this is standard procedure. Also standard procedure is the convening of a grand jury to further investigate the case. Provance said the Kimball Police Department is cooperating fully with the NSP.
