Edith M. Haines, 87, of Kimball, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 10, 2009. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Reverend Roger Gillming officiating. Cremation was held and inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Kimball Concert Association in memory of Edith. Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.Edith May Haines was born in Burns, Wyo. on May 13, 1921, the oldest daughter of Daniel and Nellie (Young) Kinnison. She spent most of her growing years in the Keota, Colo. area. Edith finished her senior year at Burns High School and also graduated with a Certificate of Normal Training which allowed her to teach K-8th grade. She taught one year at a country school near Meridan, Wyo. before marrying George Haines in 1941, her husband of 67 years. They moved to Los Angles, Calif. and then to San Diego where George served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1945 Edith and George made their home in Kimball and began the Kimball Auto Parts. Edith, always good with numbers, won the Colorado Bookkeepers Award during high school and used her talents as George’s partner to create and grow the Auto Parts until their retirement and sale of the store in 1987.  Edith was a woman with a zest for life. She was interested in business, politics, music, writing, church, civic involvement, and of course her family and friends, who were many. Edith knew almost everyone, could call them by name and could tell you their story. She loved people and their stories. Edith was a published author of short stories and was recognized as a published poet in the Famous Poets of the Heartland. She often wrote wonderful stories about her family. Edith was a member of the Kimball City Council for four years and then served as the first female Mayor of Kimball from 1982-1986.  She was a member of the PEO Chapter GN since 1966 and served as President as well as many other offices.  She was a member of the Kimball Methodist Church for nearly 64 years, teaching Sunday School, singing for years in the church choir and playing in the bell choir.  Edith loved music and entertained her family and friends with her beautiful voice and piano playing.  She served the community annually as a chairwoman and member of the Kimball Community Concert Series and loved being part of bringing the Arts to Kimball County.  Edith also served many years as a Kimball Ambassador.Survivors include her husband George of Kimball; children Dennis and Ginnie Haines of Atlanta,GA., Dean Haines of New Orleans, LA and Glenda Haines and husband Jim Heaton of Denver, CO; brothers Dan Kinnison of Kimball and LaVern Kinnison of Moscow, ID; sisters Nellie Holsipple of Rancho Cucamonga, CA., Dorothy Alexander of Lincoln, CA., Florence haug of Torrington, WY., and Lillian Bondell of Gladstone, ND; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
