The High Point Motor Speedway kicked off its inaugural season with a fun day on Sunday April 26. The fun day was the culmination of more than a years worth of work by the High Point Motor Speedway board, friends, sponsors and volunteers. It is estimated that close to 100 entries participated in the day-long event. The riders were checking in on Saturday with some of them traveling from as far away as Fort Collins, Colo. to attend. The event started at 9 a.m. and lasted until 4 p.m.Dick Cutshaw, who spoke on behalf of the motor speedway, said they (the HPMS Board) are pleased with the turnout.Cutshaw said the riders were able to talk about the track with the board members and made suggestions on how to  improve it. “The riders told us they would like to see the track wider,” said Cutshaw,“The widening is taking place right now.”People interested in seeing the first event said they noticed racers from all over the place coming to the speedway. Not only did they see young men, they also saw women, men in their 40s and 50s, and young kids all riding a motor bike. All tearing around the track. With the success of their first event behind them, the board can now look to this weekend (May 2 and 3) and their inaugural race. A race that is scheduled to be a two day affair.Cutshaw said the gates will open at 6 p.m. on Friday to admit riders and will close at 9 p.m.The gates will reopen on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. and racing will begin at 9 a.m.
