One day after winning the Bridgeport Tournament, the Kimball High Golf Team picked up another team title by winning the Morrill Tournament. The Longhorns won handily with their team score of 327 with Potter Dix a distant runner up 16 strokes back with 343. Behind the leaders were Mitchell with 353, Bridgeport 371, Gordon/Rushville 382, Morrill 405, Bayard 424, and Gering JV 427. Kimball had three golfers in the top ten medal group led by Michael Robinson in second place in the individual standings with his solid round of 38-41=79. Jeff Greenwood was third with his 42-38=80 round, and Kendall Ferguson was sixth with his round of 43-40=83. Todd O’Hare was just one stroke out of the top ten with his round of 40-45=85, and Trevan Hinton, in his first varsity match shot 55-60=115. Coach Aaron Delhay was pleased with the win. “For the most part, our guys really stay focused on what they are doing and with what they have to do. They hang in there and play strong until the final putt drops. Kendall struggled today on the front nine, but he got things together and came back on the back with a good nine,” he said. The Horns were scheduled to play the Scottsbluff Invite this past Monday, but that meet was called off and rescheduled for TODAY (Thursday). Kimball will be on their home course at the Four Winds on May 2 hosting the Western Trails Conference Tournament, and will be back at home again on May 7 for the Kimball Invitational. Both dates have 9 a.m. start times and the public is welcome to turn out and follow their favorite groups. The Bayard tournament that was postponed from an earlier date has been rescheduled for May 14, but the stormed out Gering Tourney has been rescheduled as the same date as the Kimball Invite so Kimball will not play the Gering course this season. In the mean time, Kimball, and all of the area golfers, will have to work with their practice in less than favorable conditions until the weatherman decides to give us some regular warm and golf-like days.
