It was a similar theme that resonated through the valedictorian speeches of Danielle Perry, Kali Autrey, and Julie Novotny at the Kimball High School Class of 2009 graduation on May 16, draw upon your experiences and reach for the moon.Autrey was the first valedictorian to speak. She began by recounting her time as a foreign exchange student during her junior year.“I couldn’t wait to leave Kimball,” she said. But soon, her heart longed for home and she returned. Autrey said that this class, the class of 2009, set the standards high in academics, athletics and music.   She said that she and her classmates are on top of the world and already looking towards future goals. “Never forget this school,” she said.Autrey thanked all of those that supported not only her, but all of her classmates. They included, parents, relations, teachers, friends and everyone else.“A huge part of our success goes to you,” she said. Novotny’s speech echoed much of Autrey’s. Novotny said that graduation is a milestone in their lives that should be celebrated yet always look ahead. Also taking the time to thank all of those who supported her and her class mates, Novotny added a little humor to her speech by quoting jokes with the theme of “You know your from a small town when...”Although drawing laughter from the packed gymnasium, the jokes also received knowing nods.Novotny said the thing that sticks out about a small town to her is the fact that they know the name and face of everyone they are graduating with. To her fellow classmates she said, “Do not forget to take with you the knowledge and experiences you have gathered here.”The third Valedictorian to speak was Danielle Perry.Perry, after taking the time to thank their supporters, said that this class is blessed with a variety of talent. “We have created everlasting memories that will forever tie us to each other,” she said. You may not always remember the details but you will always remember the feelings, she said.In closing she told her class to, “Reach for the moon in everything you do and never settle for anything less than your dreams.”After viewing a special video presentation of the senior class, the graduates went into the crowd and presented people with roses. Tears flowed freely as they waded through their past and presented the symbol of their appreciation. Principal Eugene Hanks then presented the Class of 2009 and was joined by school board president Danielle Reader to present the diplomas. The class of 2009 saw more than half of their graduates receiving scholarships and awards. Several of them have signed on to play athletics at the college level, while some will go on for musical performance. Many have decided to further their education. And some will serve our country in the military.Either way, welcome to the world Class of 2009.
