Kimball High sent four girls to the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships and all four brought home medals from the state meet. The Lady Longhorn’s 4xl00 relay team finished sixth with their time of 51.598 seconds. Team members were Heather Dickson, Kaitlin Moritz, Hannah Stull, and Tori Hager. Dickson is a senior but the other three are all sophomores. This means that three team members will return next year and with sophomore Whitney Lockwood also returning and hopefully without any leg problems that have hampered her the past two seasons, the Kimball ladies should be able to send a sprint relay team back to Omaha once again. Miss Dickson was a three event qualifier this year but failed to place in her two solo events. She was 11th in the long jump with a best leap of l5’8.5”, a few inches off her season best. She also ran 13.187 in the 100 meter dash prelims but failed to qualify for the finals. Sophomore Kaitlin Moritz also failed to make the finals in the Class C 100 meter hurdles running 17.556 in her prelim heat. Senior Mark Mieuts, Kimball’s lone boy qualifier, came up one place short in the 800 meter run on Saturday clocking a good time of 2:02.796 to finish 9th. He ran a 52.095 in the Friday prelims and failed to qualify for the finals on Saturday. Kimball coaches said they were fortunate to be in the early session Friday as they got their events done before the day got quite hot and humid. Coach Larry Pahl said “We felt the heat on Saturday before we got our final events completed”. The Kimball coaches also said they were proud of the efforts of their athletes.
