It was a night of thrills and spills as the first ever Kimball Ranch Rodeo went off without a hitch at the Kimball-Banner County Fairgrounds Saturday night.Ten teams competed in five events for the prize of custom made Gist buckles and cold hard cash.  By the end of the night the teams found themselves, bruised, cut , and just a little winded. But there was no clear winner, so the contest was settled by a good ol’ fashion horse race - one lap around  a barrel and back to the starting line. The winner was the Rope and Choke Cattle Company and Faden Ranch from Banner County.  Second place went to the Worth Ranch from Springview, Neb. Spectators braved cold winds and a dousing of rain to cheer on their favorite teams. The overall favorite event was the wild cow milking. In this events the teams had to rope a cow, and then attempt to milk it as fast as possible. After the show the teams and spectators headed to the Kimball Event Center for some music and socializing. At the Event Center, Ranch Rodeo Board Chairperson Sharon Baker said she was pleased how everything went. Although she was busy most of the night, she said she was able to see the crowd and was very pleased with the turnout. With the first event a success, Baker, and other board members are giving thought to more rodeos in the future. The rodeo was the culmination of several months of hard work by the board members. It was born out of a conversation between Alex Engstrom and Doug Provance. Provance said that he too was pleased with the turnout. He was also pleased with the turnout of teams.  He, like Baker, is excited about next year’s possibilities. Provance said he talked to some of the teams after the rodeo and they expressed an interest in coming back next year.
