According to Todd Flick, a ride captain for the Patriot Guard Riders, the organization will be sponsoring a HOTH benefit ride on Saturday, July 25.HOTH (Help on the Home-front) serves the purpose of furthering the mission of the PGR program as it relates to Nebraska. That mission is to honor and help those in need and continue to support the military and their spouses. HOTH missions include, welcome home rides for wounded warriors, flag lines, visits to the wounded in local hospitals and rehabilitation homes, help at home (repairs, rides, etc. or just being there to talk to), long term contact and support.These services are offered to “Wounded Warriors, deployed military personnel family support, Fallen Warriors and their families, Fallen Police and Firefighters, and Downed PGR riders.The HOTH ride in this part of Nebraska will begin in Sidney at the Holiday Inn with sign in beginning at 8 a.m.A ride meeting will be held at 9 a.m. and clutches out at 9:30.The first stop on the map will be Kimball at the VFW. Riders are estimated to arrive at 10:30 a.m. From Kimball they will ride on to Gering, Bayard, Dalton and then finally back to Sidney. Another ride will be going on in the eastern part of the state starting in Lincoln and going to Wilber, Geneva, Milford, and back to Lincoln. The Patriot Guard Riders were officially formed in October of 2005. The formation of the group came in response to the actions of Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kans. The first group to ride in support of a fallen soldier was the American Legion Riders Chapter 136 in Topeka. Their goal is to protect mourning family members from the protesting and demonstrating of the WBC. To date the riders have ridden more than 100 missions across the nation. There are chapters in every state as well as the Pacific Protectorates, and Canada.
