Do enjoy seeing those projects that your child does at school? Do you like to decorate your refrigerator with lots of artwork? Have you found that desire somewhat unfulfilled? Not anymore.Jamie Provance, a special education para-educator at Mary Lynch Elementary, is teaching an after-school art program on Tuesday and Thursday for 2-6 graders. Provance is a recent graduate of the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design  and was hired by the Kimball School district this year.  Her new  art program began last week and is already seeing great huge interest.Kimball Elementary Principal Rob Alderson said more than 90 kids have attended the class.Alderson said art is something he has wanted to bring to the elementary schools but it was never in the budget. When the saw Provance’s background he knew he had found his answer.“Art has its benefits,” said Alderson, “Kids in Kimball love to draw.”The art program gives the Kimball elementary kids another outlet and something more to be successful in, Alderson said. With the program in its infancy, Provance said they are learning what it is the kids want to do.So far drawing has been high on the list.“Drawing is going to be huge,” said Provance.Emphasizing this point, some of the kids voiced their opinions.“I want to learn how to draw 3-D objects,” Makylah Seely said.“I joined the art program because I wanted to learn how to draw better,” Ryan Soper said. Some of the students have more precise goals in mind.“I wanted to be creative,” said Andrew McCloud, “and I want to learn how to draw a motorcycle.”Connor Moore has his eyes set on the future.“I want to be an artist when I grow up,” he said, “so this is a start for me.”Provance said the art program will continue as long as there are kids interested in doing it. With this being the first year, the focus will primarily be on the basics.Next year, with a better understanding in place, she said they will be exploring more advance things like painting. For now though it will be about getting the students to think in a creative mind set. The art program meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30. In order to be a part of it, all you have to do is sign up.
