The Kimball lady Longhorns opened their season with a sweeping loss to a strong Bridgeport team Thursday at home going 25-11, 25-15,, and 25-18. Bridgeport won in two games over the C team 25-15 and 25-8 as well as against the JV team 25-11, and 25-7.The lady Horns fought hard in all three of their games. Strong play a the net, and quality serving helped this young team remain competitive throughout the match. Senior Cierra Pedersen was the top setter for the Horns with 6. She was joined by Whitney Lockwood to lead the way in kills with four.Lockwood was second on the charts in digs with five. She trailed Regan Hinton who had 11.Lead blocker for the Longhorns was Tori Reader with 3.Annie McCloud led in the serving department with four aces. “The girls really pulled together well tonight,” said head coach Dani Shaw.“The upperclassmen did a good job of taking leadership roles,” Shaw said.Shaw said the girls have plenty of things to work on in practice but the season is still young.“I think that we’ll surprise some people this year,” Shaw said. The ladies will be in action again on Friday where they will get a chance to try to pull even with Bridgeport.
