The Kimball High Longhorns are 2-0 after their Friday night win at Bridgeport with the Horns coming out on top 44-6 on a clear and crisp football night. Hats off to those deserving for the condition of the Bridgeport football field as it was in the best condition this writer has seen it in the many years of covering games at that locale. Coach Gene Mohr went to the air at Bridgeport and his offense responded with some great statistics going 11 of 13 for 204 yards for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception with 5 receivers credited with catches. Kendall Ferguson had the touch as he went short, went long, scrambled and threw soft to his receivers or bore it in when necessary, and everyone of his targets were catching the football. With his offensive line doing a good job of giving him time to throw, the 6’5” junior QB put on an awesome display of distributing the football. Michael Robinson had 4 catches for 60 yards, Jake Daum 4 catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns, Brady Land 1 for 13, Johnathan Weinmaster 1 for 17, and Trevor Peter-sen 1 for 13. The Horns had 89 rushing yards on 22 carries for a total of 293 yards with Daum leading the way with 11 carries and 72 yards and I rushing touchdown, and Petersen had 5 carries for 19 yards including an 11 yard touchdown carry. The Horns had 9 first downs, lost 1 of 5 fumbles, were penalized 8 times for 55 yards with Matt Merryfield punting 3 times for a 34 yard average. The Kimball defense played big once again holding Bridgeport to 244 yards total with most of those yards coming on three long runs. The Bulldogs had 10 first downs, lost all 3 fumbles, had 9 penalties for 45 yards, rushed 42 times for 223 yards, and were 5 of 14 passing for 21 yards. They punted 5 times for a 32 yard average. Kimball’s scoring started in the 1st quarter with Ferguson hooking up with Daum on a 21 yards scoring strike with 7:38 left in the opening period and then throwing complete to Weinmaster for the two point conversion. The second TD of the evening occurred a couple of minutes later after Ferguson hit Daum with a 23 yard pass for a first down at the Bulldog 4-yard line where Daum carried it in on the next play going over his own left side with the clock showing 5:24 remaining 1st period. Ferguson kicked the PAT to go up 15-0.It was another Ferguson to Daum connection to account for a 46 yard TD with only 11 seconds gone in the second period with Ferguson scrambling out of the pocket after a hard rush by the Bulldog defenders and finding Daum along the sideline. Ferguson’s kick made it a 22-0 ball game. The Horns struck quickly a couple of minutes later when Ferguson went in on a quarterback sneak from 2 yards out and the clock showing 7:58 in the second period and Ferguson’s third straight kick of the night made it 29-0. Bridgeport got on the score board next with Nick Lapaseotes taking a pitch and going 65 yards but the PAT pass failed and with 6:31 left in the first half the score board read 29-6. On the ensuing kickoff, the Horns drove 61 yards in 6 plays to score with a 29 yard pass from Ferguson to Robinson accounting for the majority of the yards on the drive. Petersen took it in from 11 yards out on the very next play with 4:28 remaining in the half. When the snap for the PAT kick was bobbled, Ferguson alertly picked it up and ran it in for the 2 point conversion and Kimball took a 37-6 lead into the half time locker room.
