A 1985 Blue Bird 48 passenger bus was apparently torched by vandals about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 28. Kimball’s Fire Department  responded to the early morning fire. The bus appears to be a total loss.It was parked on the business location of Trailers & Bed liners in the 300 block of West 3rd Street. The burnt shell of the bus reeked of ash and smoke after the fire was put out. All the upholstery and interior trimmings were consumed by fire. A concession trailer parked nearby suffered scorch damage before being pulled away from beside the burning bus. A camper shell set near the bus was also damaged by the flames. The State Fire Marshall made a preliminary investigation of the scene early in the day on the 28th. The Fire Marshall told the owners the fire evidently started under the seat adjoining the right side rear exit door. The Fire Marshall made no mention of accelerants to the bus owners. The investigation will continue. The bus was to be used as a motor home which would pull a large concession trailer. The trailer had been used the day before at the Kamakazee remote controlled air plane event. The trailer contained several bottles of propane which fortunately were not ignited during the bus fire.Judy Anderson, of Trailers & Bed liners, said the bus had about 35,000 miles of actual use. It was not insured. Anderson said she was unaware of any person harboring a grudge against them who might seek revenge by burning the bus.She thought it to be an act of vandalism and completely out of  the character of Kimball.
