Steve R. Sterling, 64, of Kimball, died at the Golden Living Center in Sidney on Friday, September 18, 2009.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Father Robert Karnish officiating.  Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.  Memorials have been established to the family.  Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.Steve Ray Sterling was born in Sidney on November 2, 1944, the son of Wade and Opal (Spiker) Sterling.  He attended and graduated from the Gurley Schools.   He went to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads.  He was married to Leanna McGee in Sidney on July 10, 1965.  Steve continued to work for the Department of  Roads, a job which he held for the next 39 years.  The family moved to Kimball in 1970.  Steve retired in 2004 due to ill health.  He was a member of the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department and was later recognized as a honorary member.  He enjoyed NASCAR, building trailers and working the yearly harvest.   Steve was a person who would help anyone in need.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.Survivors include his sons Dean (Anne) Sterling of Sidney and Wade (Tonya) Sterling of Sydney, Australia; daughter Lisa (Gary) Lamb of Pine Bluffs, WY; brothers Larry (Pat) Sterling of Kimball and Riley (Barb) Sterling of Phoenix, AZ; sisters Dorothy (Mike) Rattene of Springhill, KS and Jessie (Bob) Foster of Manhattan, KS; 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  His parents preceded him in death.
