The 52-19 loss at the hands of Gordon/Rushville is not indicative of how well the Kimball Longhorn football team played in their season finale Thursday night at Longhorn Stadium. Coach Gene Mohr and his staff had a good offensive scheme in place for the visiting Mustangs and it helped them to out-first down the winners 16 to 13, and to pile up 289 yards passing to 222 for the Mustangs. Kendall Ferguson had a good night throwing the football and he spread it around to 6 different receivers led by senior Michael Robinson who had 6 catches for 125 yards with 3 catches of 25 yards or better. Jeff Greenwood had 4 catches for 58 yards, Brady Land 3 for 65 yards, Trevor Petersen 2 for 19, Dalton Lockwood 1 for 21, and Johnathan Weinmaster 1 for 1 yard. Ferguson ended up 17 of 22, while the Mustangs were 11 of 17. Gordon/Rushville had 194 yards rushing on 28 attempts for a total of 416 yards while Kimball had 33 rushing plays for 95 yards and a total of 384 yards. The Longhorns were penalized 11 times, for 71 yards and GR 7 for 52. The Horns punted 4 times and GR 1. Kimball’s scoring came on a 6 yard run by Todd O’Hare, a 7 yard run by Dalton Lockwood, and a 2 yard run by Petersen. Ferguson had 33 yards rushing on 11 carries, Petersen 32 yards on 11 carries, Lockwood 22 yards on 6 carries, and O’Hare 8 yards on 5 attempts. Ferguson was good on 1 of 3 PAT kicks. Gordon/Rushvill scoring came on an 80 yard kick return on the first kickoff to start the game by Ty Kreitman, a 16 yard run by J. Metzger, a 79 yard pass from Chris Conroy to Andy Loy, a 1 yard run by Conroy, a 67 yard run by Metzger, a 56 yard pass from Conroy to Austin Wacker, and a 11 yard run by L. Haller with 8 seconds left in the game. From the defensive stats, Petersen with yet another outstanding night with 17 tackles including 10 unassisted and 1 for loss of 9 yards. Ferguson was in on 5 tackles with 4 solos and 2 for loss yardage. O’Hare had 6 tackles with 4 solos, Alan Muneio 5 stops with a tackle for loss yardage, Lockwood 4, James Ferguson 4, and Robinson 3. Ferguson had an interception and Weinmaster, Robinson, Lockwood, and Mitchell Poss all had fumble recoveries. After winning their first three games, the Longhorns lost the next five, ending up at 3-5 on the season. With only six seniors on the squad, the Horns should be even stronger next year, especially with a strong class of talented sophomores this year, including a big group of young linemen who will come back bigger, stronger, and more experienced. Kimball played the final two games without their top rusher, Jake Daum, who was also one of their leading defenders. Daum was to undergo surgery on his ankle yesterday (Wednesday) and will miss most, if not all, of the upcoming basketball season as well. Sophomore Greenwood suffered a broken collar bone in the final game and will be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks. Gordon-Rushville 24 8 6 14--52Kimball 6 7 0 6 --19
