Coach Bruce Tjosovld got a season high scoring output from his Kimball High boys in a Saturday evening 84-56 win over the visiting Gordon/Rushville team. Despite missing on several apparent easy layin shots, the Horns made 32 of their 72 shots from the field and were 18/31 at the foul line.

A huge night for Kendall Ferguson who finished with 20 points, along with 16 rebounds and 12 assists, plus 5 blocked shots and 4 steals. His triple double could have been even more impressive had some of his team mates on the receptive end of passes delivered with deadly accuracy converted layins for baskets.

Ferguson was not the leading scorer for Kimball on this night as Brady Land was high with 23 on some sharp shooting. Land was 8-13 from the field going 2-5 from three point land and 5-7 at the foul line. Jake Daum finished with 22 points along with 8 rebounds. Taylor Brown hit double figure scoring with 12 on 5/9 shooting from the field and 2/2 at the line. Zach Marosi came off the bench to score 5 and Woodrow Parsons had 2 points along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

As a team, Kimball pounded the boards for 44 rebounds, had 15 steals, 12 assists, and 5 blocked shots along with 17 fouls and 19 turnovers.

Kimball got out to an 18-11 lead at the quarter break and was on top 40-31 at half time. Led by Land’s 15 point third quarter, Kimball outscored the Mustangs 24-13 after three periods of play and put the game away with a 20 to 12 scoring margin in the fourth period.

Gordon/Rushville was 21/70 from the field going 6/26 from three point range, were 8/15 at the foul line, had 26 fouls and 25 rebounds. Scoring for the Mustangs were Chris Conroy with 12, Brandon Hotz 11, Ty Kreitman 11, Derek Janssen 8, Turee Benson 8, and Lane Haller 5.

Coach Tjosvold said it was complete team effort and praised the play of all of his players. He did single out all of his starters. “It’s obvious how well Kendall (Ferguson) played as it is with Brady (Land) and Jake (Daum). Taylor (Brown) had some good stats and I thought Woodrow (Parsons) may have had his best game. He was more aggressive and played strong defense. I also thought Zach (Marosi) off the bench did a real good job for us,” said Tjosvold.

With the win Kimball ran their record to 6-7 and assured themselves a seeded spot in the upcoming Western Trails Conference Tournament which means a first round home game. After a game at Mitchell this past Tuesday, the Horns have a double header weekend coming up with a home site contest with Pine Bluffs Friday night with JV games to start at 4 p.m. followed by the girl’s varsity at 5:30 and the boy’s varsity at 7 p.m. Saturday they are off to Bridgeport with JV action at 1 for the girls and 2:30 for the boys, followed by girls varsity at 4 p.m. and boys varsity at 5:30 p.m.
