Marie Watson, 90, of Kearney, died at St. John’s Nursing Home in Kearney on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.  Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Fr. Robert Karnish and Fr. Jose Chaves officiating.  Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery.  Christian wake services were held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the funeral home.  Friends were able to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m.  Memorials have been established to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  The services for Marie have been entrusted to Cantrell Funeral Home.

Marie Frances Watson was born in Abie, Nebraska on March 9, 1920, the daughter of Josef and Marie (Kolar) Culek.  Marie graduated from the Kimball high school in 1938.  She worked as a welder for two years during WWII.  She then attended Venus Academy at Wichita, Kansas where she received her cosmetology degree.  She returned to Kimball and worked as a hairdresser for 30 years.  She moved to Kearney in 2007 to be closer to her daughter.  Marie enjoyed gardening, bird watching and baking.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her three grandsons.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball.

Survivors include her daughter Jean (Charles) Kasson of Amherst, NE; brother Joseph Culek of Kimball; grandsons Charles, Josef and Lucas Kasson.  Her parents, an infant brother and sisters Libbie Trotter and Vera Homer preceded her in death.
