Delbert E. Sanders, 74, a longtime Kimball resident, died at Heritage Estates in Gering on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.  Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Reverend Roger Gillming officiating.  Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends called at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. to leave condolences and sign the register book. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.  The services for Delbert were entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball.

Delbert “Del” Eugene Sanders was born in Fairfield, Nebraska on October 16, 1935, the son of Cornelius and Gladys (Shaw) Sanders.  He moved with his family at an early age to Gering.  They moved to Kimball in 1945 where his family farmed.  He attended Kimball County Schools and graduated from the Kimball High School in 1953.  While in school he was active in 4-H and FFA, he served as a 4-H leader later in life.  He attended Auto Mechanics School in Milford, NE.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve.  Delbert was married to Peggy Kenney in Milford on October 21, 1956.  They moved back to Kimball in 1956 and farmed on the family farm with Delbert’s dad and brother-in-law.  The family moved into Kimball in 1961 and Delbert worked as a mechanic for several car dealers in Kimball.  Delbert retired in 2001 due to ill health.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and snowmobiling.  He was active in the Eagles and spent many years as the manager of the Kimball Eagles.  He loved working in the yard and tinkering around the house.  He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Peggy of Kimball; his children Danny (Sherry) Sanders of Greeley, CO.,  and Deb (Jeff) Fiehtner of Kimball;  sister Nadine (Don) Reinhard of Callaway, NE:  grandchildren Jennifer Griffin, Alisha Sutterfield, Eric Webb, Stefanie Bartels, Kyle Bartels and Jannel Fiehtner; great grandchildren Jayde, Kyler, Ciyera, Lane, Lawrence, Kayleigh, Airyan and Chance; one great great grandson Zachary.  His parents preceded him in death.
