The Kimball High Track teams had their final warm up before heading to the Class C District meet in Grant today (Thursday), at the Bayard B-C-D meet this last Friday. The Bayard B-C-D meet gives the smaller schools the opportunity to go up against the athletes from the larger schools, much like the recent Best in the West meet. Kimball had a pair of winners in the boys division with Brady Land winning the long jump with a career matching best jump of 21 feet even, and Jake Daum won the 110 meter hurdle race with his career best time of 15.6. Sean Ganskow scored Kimball’s other points with his 4th place finish in the 3200 with a time of 11:31.6 as the Horns finished with 24 team points. Coach Tom Perlinski said, “We limited our entries at Bayard in preparation for districts so hopefully we will have fresh legs at Grant. We had great performances from Jake and Brady. We have several boys who have a great shot at qualifying for state, Jake and Brady as well as Sean Ganskow, possibly Shawn Nagel in the pole vault and several other boys are just a few tenths away as well,” said Perlinski.

Other Kimball boys who ran personal bests for the season were Dalton Lockwood in the 100 meters with a time of 11.6, Kenny McNeil in the 300 hurdles in 49.9, Lance Winters in the shot at 34-feet 7-inches, Trevor Petersen in the discus at 89-feet  10-inches, and Mic Rhode in the discus at 86-feet 7-inches.

The Kimball girls scored 46 team points to finish fourth in the team standings. No gold medals on the day for the Lady Longhorns, but they had some excellent marks.

“It was a good tune-up for district,” said coach Larry Pahl.

“We had some PR’s, we answered some questions, but we raised some questions. Generally all the girls competed to their best on the day, but we had some disappointments. Kayli (Rageth) ran well in the 3200 and had a great finish in the 1600. Whitney (Lockwood) and Tori (Hager) ran well in their sprints. Annie McCloud had her

best day with a personal record in the triple jump and the discus. Her third place in the triple jump was a great effort. Kaitlin (Moritz) ran a school record time of 16.08 in the 100 meter hurdles and ran well in the 4x400 relay. Our 4x100 relay ran a second best time this year with Hanna Stull back and running a leg.

That relay is still not decided as of Monday. Our 4x400 relay

did not run up to expectations and that will have to be revisited. Sam Lon~ had a season best of 4-feet 5-inches in the high jump, and Tori (Hager) had a PR in the discus. We are still working with injuries,” said Pahl.

The 4x100 relay team of Moritz, Hager, Stull, and Lockwood ran second with their time of 52.9 with Alliance winning in 52.5.

The 4x400 relay team that ran Sth in 4:33.7 was composed of Hager, Lockwood, Moritz and Cierra Pedersen.

Moritz set a new Kimball High School record in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.08 to better the old mark of 16.4 set by

Brenda Anderson back in 1994. Moritz is primed and ready for a return trip to the state meet in both the hurdles and relays but will probably be held out of the long jump to protect a hip injury suffered long jumping a meet or two back.

Lockwood ran third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.8, and Hager was fourth in the 200 in 29.4. Annie McCloud was 3rd in the triple jump at 32-feet 9.5-inches for a career best and also twirled the discus

Rageth ran an excellent time of 13:01.7 in the 3200 for third place and ran fifth in the 1600 in 6:12.6, both good times considering the wind.

Kimball will participate in the District Track Meet being held in Grant, today-Thursday, weather permitting, with start time of 9 a.m. The winning relay team, along with the top two individuals in all other events, plus some automatic qualifying marks in field events, and some fastest times from all districts, will qualify for the upcoming State Meet to be held in Omaha on May 21-22.
