Byron A. Scarborough, 86, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Thursday, May 13, 2010.  Cremation has been held and graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Dix Cemetery with Pastor Andy Hergenrader officiating.  Memorials have been established to the Kimball County Manor.  The services for Byron have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball.

Byron Alva Scarborough was born in St. Paul, Nebraska on June 23, 1923, the son of Clarence and Ethel (Stone) Scarborough.  He was raised and attended school in Gibbon, NE, and graduated from the Gibbon High School.  He worked with his father on the family farm for a short time before enlisting in the US Air Force on December 11, 1942 and served his country during WWII.  Byron was a prisoner of war in Romania during WWII.  He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945.  He was married to Virginia Prouty in Raton, NM on June 30, 1951.  The family moved to Dix in 1953 when they purchased the grocery store in Dix.  They operated the store for 21 years.  Byron then went to work for the Kimball County Manor and worked in maintenance until his retirement in 1985.  They enjoyed traveling with their family and spending time fishing and hunting.  He was a member of the Kimball American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Virginia Scarborough of Kimball; sons Charles (Sheila) Scarborough of Lakewood, NM., and Michael Scarborough of Lewisville, TX; 2 grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
