Only two bull riders could maintain their seat Saturday during the second Championship Bull Riding event hosted by the High Plains Pro Rodeo at the Kimball County Fairgrounds.

Bo Wertz scored an 89 on a bull from stock contractor Brad Vogel. Wertz was the overall winner, taking home the first place purse.

Jorey Markiss was the only other CBR rider to hold on. Markiss is making a name for himself as he dances behind the chutes, and is in general good cheer before jumping on the back of a Vogel bull. Markiss scored an 85 to place second.

No other riders held on for the required eight seconds.

The staff at the High Plains Pro Rodeo said that although the show was down on CBR bull riders this week, the June 19 show is already full.

In the open rodeo, Brice Stolsenburg and DJ Tidyman took first place in team roping with a time of 7.56 seconds. They were followed by Derek Underwood and TC Wills, 8.03; Travis Eckwall and TC Wills, 12.33; and Miles Sticklemeier and DJ Tidyman, 12.84.

Mixed Team Roping had only one team get ropes on, Meghan Vosvorgh and Josh Pollitt with a time of 18.31.

In breakaway roping Callie Schafer got her lasso on in 5.89 seconds. Second place was a separation of only .01 seconds as Taya Ellerman hit a time of 5.9.

Tie Down Roping saw Riley Pruitt  take home the prize with a time of  8.42. Wyoming Rodeo Association cowboy Britt Bath place second with a time of 9.76. He was followed by another WRA cowboy, Tim Malm. Malm, from Albin was last weeks first place winner. His time this week was 10.03. Seth Schafer  rounded out the tie down with a time of 10.65.

Steer Wrestling was originally scheduled to be part of the first performance, but do to a lack of entries it had to be scratched. This week there was nine steer wrestlers ready to tackle their steer.

Taking first in the bulldogging was Miles Sticklemeier with a time of 8.31. He was followed by WRA cowboy Troy Branbemuehl, 8.58; and WRA cowboy Augustus Cross, 10.88.

WRA cowgirl  Kaycee Tidyman  twisted her horse around the barrels in 18.03 to take first in the barrel racing. She was followed by Marty Pruitt, 18.07; and WRA cowgirl Lexi Bath, 18.97. Rounding out the event was Marie Hoch with a time of 19.62.

In bare-back riding, WRA cowboys Jace Daly and Kevin Kapke placed first and second respectfully.

Saddle Bronc had four riders taking home paychecks. Seth Schafer scored a 76 for first place./ He was followed by Witt Peterson (WRA) with a score of 68. Josh Leithead and Jake Buckhoets (WRA) tied for third with 66.

With the second annual kimball Ranch Rodeo being held this weekend, the gang at High  Plains will be taking the week off.  They will comeback with their third performance June 19.

This week’s rodeo saw a different format than the first one. The time was moved up so the open rodeo began at 5 p.m. The main event, CBR, began at 7 p.m. with the remaining roughstock events following.

According to a spokesperson for High Plains, this is the format the rest of the season will run in.

Spectators should note, the gate opens at 4 p.m.
