Richard L. “Dick” Jackson, Sr., age 79 of Sidney, NE  passed away late Friday night, July 23, 2010 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 28th in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Eric Meissner officiating.  Military graveside honors will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Angel of Hope.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of Dick’s care and funeral arrangements.

Richard LaVern Jackson, the son of Elton Gilbert and Neva Mary (Wright) Jackson was born on June 13, 1931 at Petersburg, NE.  He attended school in Dix, NE and entered the United States Army on July 6, 1950.  Dick was awarded numerous citations while serving in the Korean Conflict and received his honorable discharge on July 6, 1953.  While in the Army, he was united in marriage to Eloise Snyder on June 1, 1952 at Kimball.

Dick managed the Sidney Creamery, worked for Tubescope and Tri-State Supply.  He retired from WNCC after serving for thirty-five years in several capacities, including Purchasing, Housing Director and Safety and Hazardous Materials Director.  Following his retirement, Dick has enjoyed woodworking and selling his merchandise at craft shows.

Survivors include his children:  Cindy Patterson and husband Tom of Casper, WY, Lana Butts and husband Greg of Sidney, Dick Jr. and wife Shawnda of Sidney and Charles and wife Sondra of Denver, CO; (2) brothers:  Dale Jackson of Niangua, MO and Dean Jackson of Pierce, CO; (1) sister:  Bernita Brown of Kimball; (14) grandchildren and (13) great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife:  Eloise, his parents, (2) sisters:  Mary Lynn Applebury and Carol Jackson and (1) great-grandson:  Jonas Phillips.
