George L. Marlow, 78, of Kimball, died at Kimball Health Services on Tuesday, July 27, 2010.  Cremationhas taken place and memorial services will be held in Rapid City, South Dakota at a later date.  The arrangements for George have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

George Lewis Marlow was born in South Fork, Kentucky on June 5, 1932, the son of Homer and Mary (Berryman) Marlow.  He was raised in Kentucky and Michigan and lived in several different states as an adult.  He enlisted in the US Air Force on September 6, 1949 in Dearborn, Michigan and served his country during the Korean War until being honorably discharged on February 4, 1953.  He was married to JoAnne McGinnis in 1951  and Kerry, Linda, Monica and Kevin were born to this union.  In 1978 George was married to Mary Ann Bowlus and became a step-father to Carolyn.

He believed in giving an honest day’s work, helping others and having fun.  A young grandchild once described him as “the grandpa with a happy heart.”  He was an avid reader, enthusiastic debater, and a life long learner.  As a graduate of “the school of hard knocks,” George encouraged his children to achieve their educational and career goals.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann of Kimball, NE; children Kerry Marlow of Kimball, NE., Linda (Kenn) Shave of Rapid City, SD., Monica (Ed) Slocum of Eagle Butte, SD., and Kevin (Jean) Marlow of Mountain Home, ID; brother Homer Marlow of Tacoma, WA; sisters Violet Mastaler of Dearborn Heights, MI and Chris MacDonald of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Lucas Alhm, Erica Stafford, Matthew Marlow, Bob Slocum, Jessy Cole and Tony Marlow; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, mothers-in-law Vera McGinnis and Pearl Bowlus, sister Helen Lakner, brothers Leo Marlow and Stan Marlow, and step-daughter Carolyn Peschong.
