Georgia A. Childress, 60, of Dix, died at her home on Friday, September 17, 2010.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Virgil Johnson officiating.  Inurnment will be held in the Dix Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. to sign the register book.  The services for Georgia have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Georgia Ann Childress was born in Sidney on January 18, 1950, the daughter of George and Kathryn (Brothers) Killham.  The family lived in Dix where she attended school, graduating in 1968.  She was named Miss Kimball in 1968 and went on to receive the title of Miss Congeniality in the Miss Nebraska Pageant.  She married John Charles Childress in 1969.  They were married for 34 years.  Georgia earned a degree in education from Chadron State College.  She was a dedicated teacher in the Scottsbluff schools for over 15 years.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was known to them as “Shoosh”.  She enjoyed antiques, being in the mountains and playing the piano.  She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her mother Kathryn; daughter Lisa (Tracey) Loeffelholz of Miliken, CO; son John (Jennifer) Childress of Scottsbluff, NE; sisters Holly (Marc) Wittruck of Crete, NE., and Kim (Chuck) Christensen of Kimball, NE; grandchildren Alexander and Kaitlyn Loeffelholz of Miliken, CO., and Madisen and Dalton Childress of Scottsbluff, NE; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father.
