A couple of tough meets for the Kimball High Cross Country Teams this past week as they ran on Tuesday evening at the Scottsbluff meet held at the Scottsbluff Country Club, and after one day’s rest, they were at Ogallala for another twilight meet.

No team scores are kept at the Scottsbluff meet where the girls run 5,000 meters, same as the guys. Daniel Evertson was Kimball’s top boy finishing 11th with his time of 18:43. Spencer Luppen ran 26th in 20:53, Dominic Madrid 30th in 21:20, Mitchell Shields 33rd in 21:44, Brian Evertson 44th in 23:14, Matt Heng-Martin 50th in 25:10, and Caleb Bonnell 52nd in 26:31.

Laura Flores also had an 11th place finish to lead the Kimball girls with a time of 22:50. Hailey Keller ran 13th in 23:08, Kaitlin Moritz 19th in 24:08, Jordain Gawith 30th in 26:40, Dalton Luppen 37th in 29:56.

The two Kimball Junior high boys ran a 1.8 mile course at Scottsbluff with Brayan Soto-Orengo running 7th in 12:52, and Rowdy Keller 15th in 14:29.

At Ogallala almost everyone ran better times with Daniel Evertson again Kimball’s top boy runner finishing 13th in 17:59. It was a strong field of schools with the host team winning the top team honors with 22 points. Sidney scored 31, Cozad 54, Paxton 55, McCook 85, Lexington 109, Holdrege 120, KIMBALL 152, Alliance 173, and Perkins County 192. Spencer Luppen ran 54th in 20:25, Dominic Madrid 65th in 21:02, Mitchell Shields 66th in 21:03, Brian Evertson 8lst in 22:00, Matt Heng-Martin 92nd in 24:25, and Caleb Bonnell 98th in 25:51.

McCook won the girl’s team title with 31 points with Holdrege second with the same score of 31. Sidney was third with 44 followed by Cozad with 74, Alliance 93, Perkins County 107, KIMBALL 124, Hershey 137, Ogallala 157.

Hailey Keller was Kimball’s top runner finishing 18th in 17:08, Laura Flores ran 22nd in 17:31, Kaitlin Moritz 46th in 19:02, Jordain Gawith 63rd in 20:15, and Dalton Luppen 73rd in 23:29.

The Junior high boys ran one mile with Ryan Muneio finishing 4th with a good time of 5:36, Brayan Soto-Orengo ran 19th in 6:09, and Rowdy Keller 32nd in 6:46.

Coach Tiffany Johnson commenting on the past week’s running said, “All of the kids are working hard and running well. Kaitlin (Moritz) is feeling better and starting to run closer to Laura and Hailey. She had a tough time with the hip problem and then some illness. Mitchell (Shields) and Dominic (Madrid) are really running well for freshmen and are getting closer to Daniel and Spencer.

state qualifiers”.

The Longhorns will run at Gothenburg today (Thursday) with a 3 p.m. start time (Kimball time). On October 8 they will run at Hemingford in the Western Trails Conference meet and then it is District meet time on October 14th back at Ogallala.
