Enid L. Nelson, age 99 of Thornton, CO and former Sidney area resident, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010 at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, CO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 5th in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Pastor Tom Hyde officiating.

Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1-7:00 P.M., with the family present from 5-7:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Enid’s name to the First United Methodist Church Music Fund.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of Enid’s care and funeral arrangements.

Enid Lucille Nelson, the daughter of Hugh Wynne and Anne (Ellis) Edwards was born on December 6, 1910 at Carroll, NE in Wayne County.  In 1922, Enid moved with her parents and four siblings to Peetz, CO.  She graduated from Peetz High School and following one year of Normal Training at York College, she taught for one year at District #16 School in southwest Cheyenne County and for one year near Iliff, CO.  On June 10, 1931, Enid was united in marriage to Maurice A. Nelson in Sterling, CO, a marriage that would last for seventy-five years.  They made their home on a farm west of Lorenzo, NE and in 1940 moved to the farm ten miles west and one and a half miles south of Lorenzo.  In 1970 Enid and Maurice retired and moved to Sidney before moving to Denver, CO in 2006.

Enid was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and played the piano for church activities, was active with the Peetz and Sidney Methodist Women, the Peetz Farm Women’s Club, the M.I. Extension Club and received great joy being with her loving family.

Immediate survivors include:  (1) daughter:  Nadine (Don) Cassata of Brighton, CO; (1) sister:  Priscilla Robinson of Westcliffe, CO; (3) brothers-in-law:  W.R. ‘Nig’ (Dorothy) Nelson of Potter, NE, H.C.Q. (Dorothy) Nelson of Sidney and Arleigh ‘Pete’ (Aurleen) Nelson of Loveland, CO; (3) sisters-in-law:  Irma Vanover of Bellingham, WA, Cressie (Robert) Witt of Loveland, CO and LaVerne Edwards of Sterling, CO; (3) grandchildren:  Stephanie Plaziak and special friend David Hughes of Plymouth, MN, Herb Hawkins of Hartsel, CO and Dawn (Michael) Fjellanger of Rogers, MN; (3) great-grandchildren:  Kaylee Plaziak, Lucas Fjellanger and Kamryn Fjellanger and many extended family members.

Enid was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maurice in 2006; (3) brothers:  J.T. ‘Trig’, Dick and Calvin Edwards; (1) sister:  Violet Drebing; (1) great-grandson:  Dustin Plaziak and numerous extended family members and in-laws.
