The Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes had a rough start to the 2010-2011 season as they lost both of their games this weekend.

The Lady Coyotes fell to Sedgwick County 25-47 at home on Friday and then lost to the Banner County Wildcats 27-42 on Saturday in Harrisburg.

The Coyotes found themselves facing a huge deficit in the opening quarter against Sedgwick County Friday. Sedgwick County outscored the Coyotes 4-21 to take the lead.

The ladies scored six points in the second quarter and allowed the opponent to net nine. Going into the break the Lady Coyotes were down, 10-30.

The Coyotes equaled their second quarter scoring in the third but allowed Sedgwick County to score 12 pushing the score to 16-42.

Potter-Dix did outscore Sedgwick County in the fourth scoring nine compared to Sedgwick’s 5.

On Saturday the Coyotes traveled to Harrisburg where they were once again tamed by a cat. This time it was the Wildcats of Banner County.

The Coyotes saw an improvement in the defensive performance in the first quarter as they only gave up five points. Unfortunately their shooting woes continued as they netted zero points in the opening stanza.

The Coyotes finally got in the board on the second quarter netting six points. The Wildcats posted up 12.

At the half the Potter-Dix Coyotes found themselves down, 6-17.

The shooting finally evened itself out for the Coyotes as they posted double digits in both the third and fourth quarters, scoring 11 and 10 points.

By the end of the third quarter the Coyotes had pulled within 10 points of the Wildcats.

A 15-point-fourth kept Banner County in the lead with the final score, 27-42.

When looking back on the weekend coach Angala Frerichs said, “My thoughts for both games is that we didn’t shoot very well.”

“I believe we were 7/50 on Friday and 11/63 on Saturday. You can’t win games shooting at such a low percentage.”

Despite this, she did see some improvement on the other side of the court against Banner County.

“Against Banner County we did play pretty good defense,” she said.

Looking ahead on the schedule the Lady Coyotes will be back on the hardwoods at Creek Valley on Friday. The will play against Paxton at home on Saturday.

According to the stat sheets, Dani Jones led the weekend scoring with 21 points. Jones posted 12 points against Sedgwick and 9 against Banner County. Stephanie Mitchell followed with 8 points (5 against Sedwick County and 3 against Banner County), Krystin Barnes and Maranda Heitman netted five points on the weekend, Conner Wolff and Tiffany LaBeau had four, and Sammantha Egging had 3.
