Vonis E. Bourret, 96, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Father Robert Karnish officiating.  Burial will be held in the Harrison Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m.  Christian Wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials have been established to Vista Villa Memorial Garden or Kimball County Manor.  The services for Vonis have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Vonis Ella Bourret was born in Sioux County on July 26, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Hickey) Davison.  She attended country school through the 8th grade and then graduated from the Sioux County high School in 1932.  She taught at country schools in Sioux County for five years following graduation from high school.  Vonis was married to James L. Bourret in Crawford, Nebraska on August 12, 1937.  They lived in Laramie, WY., Mullen, Crawford, Hemingford and Sidney.  In 1951 they purchased a hardware store and LP gas business in Kimball, they operated that business until retiring in 1974.  Vonis loved to travel and play any card or board games.

Survivors include her niece Winifred “Freddie” (Bill) Petersen of Kimball; nephew Stephen (Gail) Davison of Glendo, WY; great niece Tracy (Brad) Sterkel; great nephews Todd (Paula) Petersen and Corey (Kathryn) Davison; two great great nephews and one great great niece.  Special friends George and Jan Barp, Eric (Jenni) Barp and their children Alexis and Tyler, Amanda Barp, Meghan Barp and Nick Barp.  Her parents, husband in 1988, brother Howard Davison sister Janet Corbin and a niece Kathryn Davison preceded her in death.
