Dorothy Jarrett (Ballast) (Lockwood) 94, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Denver, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Delaney (Ron), of Laramie; David Ballast (Patricia Adams), of Denver; and Nancy Marzonie (Bernie), of Fort Collins. She is also survived by a brother, Ted Lockwood (Donna), of Austin; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husbands, Louis E. Ballast, and Tracy Jarrett, and daughters, Janet Giese and Beverly Partridge (Herb).

Dorothy Lockwood grew up in Kimball, Neb. and moved to Denver, where she met Louis Ballast. They raised five children while running the Barrel Drive Inn, a North Denver institution for many years, where Louis is credited as the inventor of the cheeseburger. She was often known by their many customers as “Mrs. Cheeseburger.” Later, she married Tracy and continued to have a wonderful life, traveling extensively. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Colorado Chapter BB.
