Area hair salons have united to assist the Kimball County Food Pantry restock their shelves.

According to local hair dresser Susie Abramson, local hair dressers will become drop off points for donations.

The holiday season has depleted the food pantry shelves and they are in need of restocking. More than that, Abramson said they hope to raise something else.

“This is a promotional thing for the food panty,” Abramson said,” We want to raise awareness for them”

Abramson said hair salons will accept any non-perishable food items at their stores. This promotion will last until the end of April, Abramson said.

Although the food pantry is always in need of items there is an exception.

“The food pantry does not need green beans,” she said.

Items in need include tooth paste, dish soap, laundry detergent, and tooth brushes, canned goods and canned meat.

Hair salons that will be accepting donations include A Touch of Class, Anu Theraputic Day Spa, Carol’s Beauty Boutique, Classical Cuts, Ducktails, Hotsy Hair, Jennifer’s Barber shop, Shear Images, A Shear Touch of Downtown and Danettes House of Hair.

The food pantry, located at 305 East 4th St., was originally operated by Community Action Partnership, is currently headed by Kimball Ministerial Alliance. Overseeing the daily operations is Cindy Grover.

As of last year the food pantry serviced 60 families in the area. Since the beginning of the year, 14 families have received cards to be food pantry patrons. The food pantry is open on Thursdays from 2-4 p.m.

The pantry is completely operated by volunteers. They stock the shelves, clean the place up and generally keep everything ship-shape.

If there is an emergency need for food outside of operation hours a minister on the ministerial alliance can be contacted.

As for donations, anyone wishing to donate to the pantry can do so from 1-4 p.m. on Thursdays at the pantry. Donations can also be made while Head Start is in session.
