Archie H. Huffman, 88 – Surrounded by family members Archie Henry Huffman of Banner County passed away Saturday March 19, 2011, at Regional West Hospital in Scottsbluff.  Funeral services will be held at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff on Tuesday March 22 at 11:00 a.m. Private family burial at Kirk Cemetery at 9:00 a.m.  Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Archie was born March 29, 1922, in Omaha to Henry H. and Nellie I. (Yanda) Huffman of Banner County.  His father, Henry H., was among the first to settle in what is known as the Kirk Community coming from Pittsburgh, PA, in 1886 to help tame the wild west.  Archie lived his entire life in Banner County where he farmed and ranched on land that was homesteaded  by his father.  Archie received his elementary education at the one room school three miles from his home.  Archie graduated from Gering High School in 1941.

On August 30, 1953, he married Dorothy M. Pile at her parent’s home in Banner County.  Archie enjoyed mechanical work and welding and until the advent of electronic technology, he did lots of work not only for himself but others as well – fixing many farm implements.

For many years Archie served as a sexton of the Kirk Cemetery close to his home.  He served on the Banner County Historical Board for several years and he attended Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Banner County.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; sons Howard (Wendy) of Lincoln; Raymond of Gering; Bryan (Sandra) of Banner County; Lyle of Banner County; and daughter Doris of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; sister Winnie Rogers of Banner County; besides a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Mark Rogers.
