A total of 67 young golfers took part in the Kimball Junior Golf Program this summer. The final tournament and “fun days” were held last week at the Four Winds.

Organizer Wilma Gilliland reported solid attendance for all instructional sessions, this year held under the supervision of course pro Chad Wise.

The pre-school through third grade level golfers all received trophies and medals, while those in fourth grade through high school battled it out for top honors.

In the fourth grade girl’s division, Jenna Greenwood finished first with Madison Hill following in second place. Mercedes Bartels won the fifth grade age group.

Ashley Jackson topped the sixth grade division with Hodaly Sotelo runner up. Shauntea Daily notched the seventh grade title, challenged closely by Brittany Clark.

In the eighth grade, it was Raelyn Soper taking home the title.

For the boys, Brandon Walker won the fourth grade division with Beau Hanks runner up. Stephen Bateman and Junior Brown tied for third.

Zane Anthony finished first in the fifth grade class, with Dillon Wise second. Isaac Reuter, Andrew Fornstrom and Grant Hickman followed on the scorecard.

Garrett Goode came out on top amongst sixth graders, with Kole Bush filing into second. Grant Golding, Andrew McCloud, Ryan Soper and Kadan Adrian filled out the remaining leaderboard slots.

In seventh grade, it was Jaden Withrow in the number one slot. Cameron Lehr won eighth grade.

Michael Ferguson took the ninth grade crown, battling Eli Swathi and Cordell Burry. Nolan Adrian topped the 11th grade category.

The Junior Golf Program originated several years back under the direction of Wilma Gilliland, who continues to oversee the valuable effort.

Many locals recognize that the Junior Golf idea, by creating interest in the game and developing individual skills, has been very instrumental in the success of Kimball High School’s golf programs.
