According to the Scotts Bluff District Court in Gering, the pre-trial hearing for Haun is scheduled for October 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the District courtroom with Judge Edward D. Steenburg presiding.

Kimball city councilman, Scott Haun, who has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a teenage boy, apparently will not resign from the government body at this time.

Nebraska allows duly elected representatives to sit on a city council provided he or she is a citizen of the United States, is a resident of the city and has no prior felonies on their record.

According to city administrator Harold Farrar, “he [Haun] has indicated that he has no interest in resigning.”

As to whether or not the city might ask Haun to step down in the wake of the alleged incident, Farrar added “I have no comment at this time. I’m not at liberty to say.”

The county attorney for Scotts Bluff, Douglas Warner, filed charges against councilman Haun last week of first-degree sexual assault on a child more than 12 years of age but less than 16.

In an affidavit in Scotts Bluff County District Court it stated that the alleged contact took place on September 3 at the boy’s home while the boy’s parents were present in another room.

The boy’s mother spoke to police the next day.
