Through just one week of the new year, Kimball police had responded to four reported burglaries.

According to chief of police Mark Simpson there are no suspects at this time. They are early in the investigative process.

“We are concerned that such incidents are escalating,” Simpson said, adding that residents need to be diligent and make certain to lock their homes and vehicles.

“It’s important for residents to realize that even though we live in a small town that we have to keep ourselves safe,” he continued. Kimball’s proximity to Interstate 80, the well traveled Lincoln Highway (or Highway 30) and the region’s major north-south four lane, allow for quick in and out crimes, such as residential burglary. People in transit pass through the area and may, if so disposed, see opportunity for criminal activity and a direct exit from town.

Over the summer, suspect small denomination bills began to appear in Kimball. Local authorities believe counterfeiters traveling along I-80 were responsible.

“The issue I see here is that we are not as ‘small town’ as what people think we are,” Simpson pointed out.

Kimball police are requesting anyone with any information in regards to the recent break-in and theft crimes to please contact the department at 308-235-3608.
