Vera Mae Clary of Gering died Wednesday January 11, 2012 as the result of a car accident.  Memorial services were held Wednesday, January 18, at First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Lauren Ekdahl  officiating.  Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery.  A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.

Vera was born March 19, 1918, in Kimball to Vernon Thomas and Effie Mae (Hill) Smith.  After graduation from Kimball High School she worked 15 years for Hested’s Company.  Vera was later employed by the Gering National Bank more than 20 years.  Vera was married to Russ Clary for many happy years.

Vera’s friendly outlook, smile and enthusiasm for life will be remembered by her many friends, neighbors and family members. She enjoyed her home, rose garden and playing bridge with friends. Vera was active in the Methodist church.

Survivors include her sister, Alta Maxted of Washington, Iowa, and a stepson, Wayne Clary and wife Arlyne of Montrose, Colorado. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews: James Maxted and wife Traci of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Michael Maxted and wife Mary of Washington, Iowa; Jack Maxted of Story City, Iowa; Robert Sandridge and wife Cindi of Lakewood, Colorado; Jon Sandridge and wife Shanna of Sterling, Colorado; and Sharon Fleenor and husband Keith of Los Lunas, New Mexico; as well as great nieces and nephews.

Her husband Russ Clary preceded her in death, as did her parents and three siblings, Edward Smith, Dorothy Sandridge and Robert Sandridge.
