John Morrison will fill the City Council seat vacated when Scott Haun resigned. He was appointed by mayor James Schnell and approved by the body during the council’s regular meeting of May 16.

Over the years Morrison has been actively involved in the community, working on the Farmer’s Day committee, as well as serving as the chairman on the LB840, the economic development group, and other community minded organizations and projects.

He works for Castronics.

“I am excited and honored that they whose me for the position,” Morrison said. “This will give me an opportunity to learn and then if I am elected in the fall, I will just have that much more experience to use in my new term.”

Morrison received the greatest number of votes for county commissioner during the recent primary election. He will complete Haun’s term, which is to end after this first regular meeting in December of 2012.

After the swearing in ceremony on May 16, Morrison walked up and sat in the recently vacated council seat, greeted by the mayor and the other council members.

Haun resigned from his long time post after entering a plea of no contest to charges of attempted sexual assault in a case stemming from an incident in Scotts Bluff County last fall.
