Former City Councilman Scott Haun had been prepared for sentencing on Monday, June 11 on charges in the sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy after reaching a plea agreement in the case. However, the court was forced to postpone sentencing after Judge Randall Lippstreu was subpoenaed to appear in Omaha this week on a Federal case.

Haun’s sentencing is now set for Monday,  at 11 a.m., in Scotts Bluff County District Court.

Haun was arrested in October of 2011 and held in the Scotts Bluff County jail on charges of first degree sexual assault of a child between the ages of 12 and 16 after an incident that occurred while he was a guest at friends’ home.

Haun posted the required $15,000.00 of a $150,000.00 bail. Shortly after being arrested, Haun, was fired from his position with the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scotts Bluff. The day Haun went before the court and pled to a lesser charge, he presented a letter of resignation from his city council post to Mayor James Schnell.

In the original Affidavit For Warrant filed by the State of Nebraska, the victim’s mother reported that while drinking alcohol and watching television with her and her husband, Haun left to use the restroom and was gone for several minutes. When she found Haun, he was in her son’s bedroom, kneeling on the floor next to the boy’s bed. She then reportedly asked Haun to leave her son’s room.

Initially, according to the same affidavit, Haun told Investigator Brian Eads of the Nebraska State Patrol Office in Scottsbluff that he had not touched the boy in an inappropriate way, but did admit to returning to the room where the boy’s parents were and engaged in sexual acts with the couple.  After Investigator Eads stated to Haun that his  polygraph examination showed that he was being deceptive, Haun then told the investigator that he had indeed touched the boy in an inappropriate and illegal manner.

During the pre-trial hearing, video of the interviews were given to the judge to examine.

Haun’s wife, Angie, was suspended from her position with pay last Friday at the Kimball County Courthouse where she was Kimball County Court Clerk Magistrate, pending an investigation due to a complaint that was filed against Haun.
